What’s a joint like this doing in a girl like me?

Knees are interesting things. They are fairly common and not particularly attractive, but we take them for granted at our peril.  I learned that lesson the hard way just last month.

kneesAfter putting up with the regular pounding I’d been giving it for years, my left knee suddenly decided to rebel. I spent a few days limping around before the recalcitrant joint finally responded to lavish amounts of liniment and mollycoddling and decided to forgive me and carry on.

While trying to live with an inflexible knee, I began to see parallels to the problems that taking our blessings for granted and becoming inflexible can bring to our faith walk.

I had ignored the warning twinges from my knee until I was painfully forced to address the problem. That sometimes happens in my spiritual life, too.

If I had only eased up a bit, and perhaps added a knee support to my wardrobe, I might have avoided the discomfort and inconvenience I endured.

Similarly, when those twinges of temptation or discouragement begin to creep into my spirit, that is the time to act and get the help and support I need if I want to avoid a major incident.

Purposefully keeping our knees healthy and flexible improves our over-all health and enhances our quality of life.

Time spent on the knees in prayer encourages humility. A humble spirit is a wonderful antidote to becoming rigid and depressed.

Are you currently spending enough time on your knees?
