Do you feel the heat?

The surest road to Hell is the gradual one…the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts. – C.S. Lewis

Most of us are familiar with the boiled frog analogy; the phenomenon whereby a frog placed in a pan of cold water will remain calmly sitting there while the heat is gradually raised, even though it could leap out, eventually dying in the boiling water.

These illustrations serve to demonstrate how easy it is for anyone to slip into bad situations or attitudes, although Lewis’s warning is to Christians, specifically.

American society has been gradually sliding away from the founding principles of our Judeo-Christian heritage for decades.

Many Christians have scarcely felt the heat rising and the few who did and tried to warn the rest have been scoffed at, ridiculed and urged to stop making waves while trying to get out of the pan.

Now, we arefrog metaphorically up to our necks in boiling anti-Christian, anti-Jewish attitudes and many of us wonder just how we got here.

However, we are not all dead, yet. There is still time to leap out of the pan, if we are willing to make a splash and jump up boldly, professing our faith without fear.

The time for quietly simmering is past.
